Machines used for cutting steel and other metals to different thicknesses and shapes using plasma cutting technique are popularly known as plasma cutting machines. These metal cutting machines generally use high speed ionized gas delivered from a nozzle to heat and melt the material to be cut. Along with high pressured gas an electric spark is formed which converts the gas into plasma, which is sufficiently hot to cut the work material smoothly.  As these plasma cutting machines are mainly used for metal cutting purposes like steel cutting and aluminium cutting, they find their applications mainly in metal fabrication industry.

Generally plasma cutting machines are classified or chosen according to their capacities for cutting metals into different lengths and thickness.

Depending on metal cutting thickness capacity wide range of plasma cutters are generally available for cutting metals ranging from 5mm thickness to 300mm thickness. Also available as portable cutting machines these plasma cutters can be carried to the cutting metals for slicing the metal. For cutting metals into different shapes like squares, circles, flanges, stars, ellipse, or any other irregular shapes number of plasma shape cutting machines are now available in portable and heavy duty formats as per cutting needs. While portable shape cutting machines are ideal for small workshops, heavy duty cutting machines are used for large production applications in industries. Not only for irregular shape cutting, these plasma shape cutters are also available as straight line cutting machines which can be used for cutting metals straightly up to required length. These shape cutting machines can swiftly cut any kind of metal plates like steel plates, aluminium plates, brass plates into required shape to the perfection.

With advancing technology came the CNC plasma cutting machines in 1980’s. These are the CNC plasma cutters based on computer numerical control technology offering greater flexibility to cut diverse shapes on demand based on a set of instructions fed into the machine. Modern CNC plasma machines are capable of cutting thick material on multiple axis and allow complex CNC welding that is not possible with other machines. One can always opt for CNC machines when your needs for metal cutting are very complex.

Have Fun With Cupcake Decoration

Cupcake decorating is fun and easy once you get familiar with the basics. One of the biggest advantages of making cupcakes versus making a whole cake is that you can have much more fun with these bite-size morsels by getting creative with your frosting ideas.

Before you do, you should know some basics about frosting and other edible cupcake toppers. The best way to learn is through experience, trial and error are the greatest teachers when it comes to baking and decorating cupcakes.

Frosting is the most popular choice when decorating cakes and cupcakes. There are different types of frosting: buttercream, whipped cream, royal icing, cooked frostings, ganaches and glazes. It is important that you know the difference before you start decorating.

Buttercream Frosting
Buttercream frosting is made by blending together butter, powdered sugar, liquid, and other flavoring.

The powder sugar helps stabilize the mixture and easily dissolves during the beating process. It is favored because of ease in making, and because the more you beat this mixture, the creamier and fluffier your results are.

Cooked Frosting
Cooked frosting varies but seven-minute cooked frosting is the most commonly used. The main ingredients in cooked frosting are egg whites and sugar. A double boiler is used to gently heat the mixture to at least 140 degrees. A beater is required for this type of frosting. Unfortunately, these frostings are tenuous and will absorb into the cupcake if they aren’t eaten within the first 24 hours.

Whipped Cream Frosting
Whipped cream frosting also utilizes powdered sugar but whipped cream is substituted for butter. Again, the powdered sugar assists in stabilizing the mixture but, in this case the frosting can be overbeaten.

Only beat the mixture until peaks appear and be sure that when you remove the beater, pull it straight out of the frosting mixture. A downside to this frosting is that it must be refrigerated.

Royal Icing Frosting
Royal icing is most commonly used frosting for cake, cookie, and cupcake decorating. It’s easy to make with powdered sugar, egg whites, and other basic ingredients. This frosting is easy to make at home and to color with food coloring so you can get more inventive with your decorating ideas.

Ganache
Ganache is really just a complex term that means melted chocolate mixed with heavy cream. This frosting not only tastes delicious but looks divine as a slick glaze on your cupcake. You can also use ganache to make truffles by beating it until it’s stiff and fluffy and rolling it into small balls.

Glazes
Glazes are the most simple and easy frosting. Combining powdered sugar and water, milk, or cream creates a thin mixture. Glazes are most often used to pour or drizzle as a topping. Once hardened, the glaze forms a hard shiny crust. Melted chocolate creates the same effect when used as a glaze.

Now that you know the different types of frosting, remember that there are also even more to choose from. Fondant is a type of frosting that hardens when it’s cooled and offers a smooth surface cupcake or to cut decorations from. Marzipan is similar but has a texture similar to clay. Use marzipan to make delicious 3D edible designs. Gum paste is very similar in texture to marzipan but becomes brittle when it hardens. Decide what you want your decoration to look like and then choose the type of frosting that would best suite your needs.

Evolution of Cupcake Wraps and decorations for cupcakes

Posted in Cupcake Decorations on May 31st, 2010 by – Be the first to comment Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

I remember when I was younger, my grandmother would always have a cute little cupcake waiting for me and she would lay out all of the decorations for cupcakes and let me decorate them when I arrived. My family get-together almost always ended up with white cupcakes, decked with lots of chocolate icing and sprinkles on top, as desserts. Today, the cupcake has evolved from the usual white cake flavor to the more elaborate forms, such as red velvet cupcakes, carrot cake cupcakes and many, many more.

While the housing and the flavor of the cupcakes have improved over the years, so have the accessories used in cupcake preparation and decoration-some new found, and some improved. These cupcake accessories have made the cupcake more interesting to cook and decorate.

Cupcake Wraps and Liners

Cupcake wraps and liners or round sheets of thin paper, such as parchment paper, are used to provide a thin barrier between the cake and the cupcake pan.

The job of a cupcake liner is to keep the cupcakes moist and soft and also make it easier to remove the cupcakes from the pan after they have finished cooking and cooling.

White paper used to be the main style of cupcake liner available. Eventually manufacturers came out with plain colored cupcake liners that you could purchase for events such as birthday’s and anniversaries. A couple of years later, colorful paper liners with designs that match your party theme were made available. If it’s Spiderman or Hello Kitty you want, finding the paper liner that fits your needs is no longer a problem.

Not only have the cupcake liners evolved into works of art, the big trend is to now wrap your cooked and decorated cupcake with cupcake wraps. Cupcake wraps are the new chic in the cupcake industry. Cupcake wraps are easy to handle and can make even the most novice bakers’ cupcake look like a designer cupcake out of a couture cupcake shop.

Cupcake Towers

Cupcakes used to be baked and placed on a platter or maybe even a cake plate for display. They weren’t displayed long in my house, as I remember as soon as they were baked, they were eaten. There was no time for fancy decorations and displays.

Nowadays, cupcakes are the centerpiece of the dessert table for many events. In fact, the latest trend in weddings is cupcake wedding cakes. Cupcake trees and cupcake towers are being used as wedding cupcake stands in order to display hundreds of elegantly decorated cupcakes replacing the traditional wedding cake in many weddings today. The guests of the party can even take their own cupcake home with them in specially made cupcake containers.

Depending on how large the event may be, cupcake towers can have 3 to 7 tiers at an average. Most of them can be easily taken down, washed and stored for future use while others are disposable so the host doesn’t have to worry about cleaning the cupcake tower and storing after the party. The disposable towers are usually cheaper than the reusable ones; however, if you plan on having several events during the year, it would be beneficial to invest in a little higher priced, reusable tower that would really save you money in the long run.

Conclusion:

Cupcakes have always held a place in my heart and remind me of the simple things in life I enjoy. With that said, cupcake accessories available on the market, make simple things, a little more enjoyable.

There are many places to get ideas for cupcakes online. You can find an online cupcake store or cupcake blog that will have information about baby shower cupcake ideas, novelty birthday cakes and decorations for cupcakes.

Remember, this day and age, you can find anything you would want to know about cupcakes online.
